Susumu Shingu’s Genki-nobori

In collaboration with La Source Garouste and the Galerie Jeanne Bucher Jaeger.

The Genki-nobori are taking over the main courtyard of the Hôtel de la Marine. Conceived by Japanese artist Susumu Shingu in the aftermath of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, these creations reinterpret the traditional Japanese carp-shaped windsocks.

On the white fabric of these long banners are inscribed drawings and, at times, words, messages of hope entrusted to the wind. 

With the support of the Galerie Jeanne Bucher Jaeger, La Source Garopuste developed this initiative as part of its 2026 multi-site project.

Between February and May 2026, around one hundred children facing social, educational, or family challenges took part in workshops organized by La Source Garouste and created 100 Genki-nobori.
